About Dan’s sporting roles

I am responsible for all technical matters regarding football in the country of the British Virgin Islands.

My main areas of focus are:

– National Teams
– Women’s Football
– Coach Education
– Youth Program
– Grass Roots Football

How do your roles contribute to the overall goals of the organisations?

I am responsible for delivering the objectives set by the FA.

How did you acquire your current roles?

Progressed from assistant national team coach.

What typical equipment, tools & technologies do you use to achieve great outcomes in your work?

Tools – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Zoom.

Technology – we use an app called the champion PlayerPathway (this is an online learning tool/coaching program)

What methodologies and standards do you incorporate in your work?

We go by the following values

  • Respect for all involved in the game
  • Hard work
  • Honesty

What’s your favourite or go to sports brands for your role in sports?

Joma is our new kit maker and will be responsible for all our apparel and equipment needs.

What advice would you give to anyone wanting to be in your role in the future?

Watch good people work, network, ask questions, listen, work hard.

Do the best possible job in your current role rather than looking at your next role.

What are some key successes or personal milestones you’ve achieved in your career?

  • BUCS coach of the year
  • Football cup Barcelona winners 2016
  • Football cup Barcelona winners 2017
  • CONCACAF pool 3 runners up 2017
  • CONCACAF pool 3 winners 2019

What’s some advice or knowledge you wish you had been aware of earlier in your career?

Keep your options open and be open to new ideas or opportunities, if you get a chance go abroad and work as it will be of massive benefit and will broaden your horizon.

From your perspective, who are some success stories you look up to and why?

Andre Villas Boas would be an obvious one as he actually worked on the BVIFA prior to embarking on a club career.

Ian Greenwood, Technical Director of Guyana (LinkedIn) has also done a fantastic job for their FA.

What regions of the world and specific organisations you’d like to be part of during your career?

Open to all suggestions!

What types of roles would you like to be doing in the future during your career?

At some point, I’d like to go back into club football. As Technical Director, Sporting Director or Head of Football Operations type of role.
